Green for Growth Calls for Action

10th January, 2013

A new campaign has been launched amid growing concerns that the government is failing to grasp the opportunity to boost jobs and growth in construction through the green economy. Building Magazine has launched the Green for Growth campaign which is being supported by the UK Green Building Council (UKGBC) and the CBI, and aims to persuade government to promote sustainable development as a route to economic growth.

Green for Growth calls for action in five key areas: the Green Deal, ringfenced spending for public sector retrofit programmes, zero-carbon housing, Display Energy Certificates and clarity around long-term energy infrastructure investment.

Paul King, UK-GBC Chief Executive said: “The green agenda has been the biggest stimulus of innovation in the construction sector over the last five or six years. But the most powerful people in government have failed to recognise the importance of these green shoots.”

UK-GBC will coordinate joint letter to Government next week supporting key measures the in the Green for Growth campaign campaign and invites all lobby groups to sign. Contact john.alker@ukgbc.org for more details.
