Get ahead of the Retrofit game

11th November, 2013

Property owners take heed. Two proposed legislative changes aimed at getting UK property owners to invest in low carbon retrofits could soon affect your business. From April 2018 residential or commercial properties with an EPC Rating of F or G will be non-rentable and now DECC is considering making Energy Savings Opportunity Scheme (ESOS) assessments a requirement. Given the implications for your business, now is a good time to fully understand the energy efficiency of your property assets and the retrofit options available to you.

“EPCs, which have had relatively little impact in their first 5 years, are finally being given teeth.  Property owners who fail to retrofit energy inefficient properties now could wake up with an expensive headache in 2018 when they lose their income stream and asset values inevitably fall as a result.  Energy efficiency legislation is only going to increase if we fall further behind environmental targets, and retrofitting will be crucial in ensuring ongoing legal compliance” said Bill Chandler, Legal Director at Hill Dickinson LLP.

The Retrofit Summit and the Retrofit London Conference will be exploring the business case for Retrofits. Investing in low carbon retrofits will save money on energy bills and could benefit the UK by £1.9 billion. On average, an investment of £15,000 per year in energy efficiency measures will deliver a bill saving of £56,400 per year.

Leading experts  - including Institute for Sustainability, Energy Initiative, Hill Dickinson LLP, Savills, Rickaby Thompson associated and the GLA will also be talking about the ins and outs of retrofit investments.

The events will be packed with presentations and masterclasses with time set aside to network within Retro Expo, which includes a comprehensive exhibition of retrofit technologies.

The Retrofit Summit  - a one-day policy conference dedicated to the refurbishment and energy efficient retrofit of existing buildings will take place on 05 December at the Business Design Centre, London. To view the full speaker programme and book your tickets, CLICK HERE.

The Retrofit London Conference - shining a spotlight on the low carbon building refurbishment and retrofit opportunities within the London region, will take place on 06 December at the Business Design Centre, London. To view the full speaker programme and book your tickets, CLICK HERE.
