CIBSE and Retro Expo nominees form roll call in sustainability best practice

Two major construction industry award schemes have released their shortlists that recognise today’s high fliers in the built environment arena. The nominees form a roll call of key people and projects that are driving sustainability and best practice in the industry.

The shortlist for CIBSE’s prestigious Building Performance Awards 2014 celebrates the best examples of actual performance and innovation in optimising how buildings work. The new International Project of the Year category provides an interesting insight and benchmark as to how leading UK projects fare against contemporary building developments in Australia, China, Hong Kong, Italy and Singapore.

“We have seen an increased number of submissions with real data about the performance of the entry,” said Dr Hywel Davies, chairman of the CIBSE judging panel.” What has also been notable this year is the increased level of interest from the retail sector - indicative that energy performance in these estates is being taken seriously."

Britain’s most innovative retrofit products, services and pioneers make up the shortlist for the 2014 Retro Expo Awards. 33 domestic, commercial and public sector organisations from across the UK have been recognised as demonstrating excellence in sustainable design and delivery.

“Each [nominee] is testament to the fact that the UK is full of thriving and innovative retrofit products and services,” said Retro Expo director, Darren Richards. “The quality of entries has been outstanding and it's great to see that the often overlooked retrofit market can be so inspiring and innovative.”
