DECC Defends Subsidy Cuts Following Redundancies in the Insulation Sector

17th January, 2013

The Department for Energy and Climate Change have responded to reports of job cuts in the insulation sector by defending the closure of the CESP and CERT schemes.

The Insulation Industry Forum have claimed that 1,782 jobs have been lost in the sector as a result of falling workloads due to the cancellation of the schemes in December 2012. They forecast there will be no pick up in the sector until the Green Deal starts in earnest at the end of January.

DECC responded to Building magazine saying that continuing old subsidies would undermine the Green Deal. A spokesman claimed that loft and cavity wall insulation was a declining market as a result of the work completed to date. "It is inevitable", he claimed, 'that the number of loft insulations being delivered will fall - there are fewer left to do".
