400 Buildings for London RE:FIT

4th January, 2013

Thirteen specialist building services contractors have won a place to retrofit 400 public buildings in London to make them more energy efficient. The four-year RE:FIT framework will see contractors guarantee a set level of savings over the payback period of the energy conservation measures implemented on selected projects in London. The current RE:FIT pipeline of work includes energy retrofitting over 400 public sector buildings. Major names includedin the RE:FIT framework include:

Balfour Beatty Workplace
British Gas Trading
EDF Energy Customers
E.ON Energy Solutions
Honeywell Control Systems
Imtech Technical Services
Norland Managed Services
Skanska Construction UK
Willmott Dixon Energy Services

The new framework was formally unveiled after two years of pilot schemes to test the approach of using a group of pre-qualified energy service companies (ESCos) for the design and implementation of energy conservation measures. Due to interest from a range of organisations outside of London, the RE:FIT framework is now being opened to all public sector organisations and is a key component within the Energy Efficiency Strategy recently released from DECC.

The Mayor of London Boris Johnson said: “Retrofitting London’s public buildings is having a real impact in cutting both energy bills and carbon emissions, making it a win-win for Londoners. Decades from now hundreds of our public buildings will still be standing, and it’s our responsibility to make sure they are as efficient as possible for future generations. What’s more, RE:FIT is already benefiting Londoners today, boosting jobs through the burgeoning low carbon economy.”
